Hurst Boiler (HO)

Laser-cut shingles are expensive to produce, and this kit has plenty of them.  We could have gone with “Campbells” shingles, but we just wanted a “finer-scale” shingle, something that wasn’t the “same”…. these shingles are relegated only to limited-run direct-sale kits,
we couldn’t afford to include them otherwise !  Just add weathering !
The wall faces of the kit consist of individual board-on-board construction (rear shed shown above), laser-etched vertical siding (the front “store-front area)… and two types of laser-cut Bar Mills shingles which are laminated over the primary building wall & roof areas.  Note that the roofing on the rear shed and utility storage space is constructed of ribbed aluminum.

Even from the “back” of the building there seems to be a lot going on.  It’s rare to see a kit with detail surrounding it but there was so much “good stuff” here that we couldn’t see doing it any other way !

A view from above on our own diorama.  Here again…we didn’t know what side to “feature” so we built the kit on a rotating platter to be able to show it all !
